Welcome back to another game overview/ review! Today we are looking at Overcrowd: A Commute ‘Em Up! This is a game that came across my radar recently and I got to stream it a couple days ago (video included below). I really enjoyed the experience and look forward to playing more! The details:
- Released June 6th, 2019
- By SquarePlayGames
- $17 on Steam
- Early access, strategy, simulation, indie
I really enjoy this sort of tycoon game. In this iteration, you are trying to build a metro station that both makes customers happy, runs efficiently, makes money, and serves the city well. Pretty simple concept going in but there is a puzzle-like atmosphere to the game. There are currently 2 tutorial levels that teach you the basics of the game, how to build, and how customers and staff function. Next you can play in campaign mode or try your hand in sandbox mode if you want a more relaxing play through. I like that you can use a seed in campaign mode so that others can try out the same layouts as you. It would be fun to challenge friends and viewers to see who can build the ‘best’ stations. The music was also a huge plus for me. It is the typical tycoon/ simulation game type music but keeps from being overly repetitive. I actually enjoyed having the in-game music on a lot!
The building and progression menus are extremely well done. They utilize an easy to understand interface. For a game in early access, it is showing some amazing potential. Furthermore, the developer is clearly dedicated and passionate about this project. They actually look the time to watch the stream and interact with me about the content. This just makes me want to play the game even more! As you all know, a passionate developer goes a long way with me.
I would absolutely recommend you check out this game if you enjoy real-time (yet pause-able) simulation games or if you like the challenge of tycoon type games. I can tell this game is only going to get better with time. If you watch the streams or play the game for yourself be sure to let me know what you think!
