Game Overviews

Valnir Rok (info and first impressions)

Hello all! Time for another first impression article. This game came out Sept. 26th, 2017. It is developed and published by encurio. It is currently still in Early Access for $19.99. It is a Open World Survival (read pvp) MMO. The game itself was inspired largely by Norse Mythology. The description on Steam reads, “Players will awaken to find themselves on Valnir Island and must do whatever it takes to survive in a land of animals, mythical beasts, and violent men,”. The reviews on Steam are currently “mixed” but it does look like there are more positive than negative reviews as of writing this.

After Playing:

Alright, so I played this game for about an hour to start out. My first impression is that is has a lot of potential. The crafting and discovery mechanics seems well thought out and I actually enjoyed them quite a bit! Combat is tough! However, there are quests to help you learn how to fight effectively; it just might take some practice. I do like the controls and feel of the game. Except I couldn’t get the run button to work so that slowed things down a bit. I do plan on spending some more time with this game in the near future and updating this as I find more out about it. The one thing that bugged me is that not all quests show up on your mini-map making them hard to find again. Second, the map you can bring up in your inventory seems very limited. Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems like it could include many more details as you discover them at least. Also, you do have an active quest section on the left-hand side of the screen. However, the text is in white and is very very difficult to read. I found myself having to go into the full quest menu in order to figure out what I was supposed to do. I do think this game could be a lot of fun, especially with friends to help you survive. I look forward to looking into it more and will keep ya’ll updated!

Lastly, if you think this game seems like something you would like to see us stream just let me know!
